Travel - plane in sky with palm trees

Half of the events we produce are in cities other than Los Angeles. This might keep us up in the air literally, but we are never up in the air when it comes to planning! Our team has become very proficient at working on the road. Here are a few of the places we’ve been lately and a sneak peek at the events we produced.

And because an event team travels on its stomach, I’m also including some of the eateries we love in these cities. Traveling so much, we often find a favorite restaurant and keep returning. It’s almost like a touchpoint, a bit of home, while on the road.

NEW ORLEANS & BROOKLYN

The Aspen Challenge

The Aspen Challenge

aspenchallenge.org

We are honored to have produced The Aspen Challenge, with the Aspen Challenge Team since its inception in 2013. The program runs in two cities every year. The event begins with a forum for students and educators from twenty high schools across a city. At the forum, leaders pioneering change for some of the world’s most pressing issues present challenges to the teams to create innovative solutions for their communities.  Following the forum, teams design their solution, develop their brand identity, and put their solution into action in their community.

Eight to ten weeks later they come back together for a day-long competition where they showcase their solutions. At the Solution Showcase, teams are selected, scholarships and prizes are awarded, and the final teams from each city advance and showcase their work at the Aspen Ideas Festival.

In 2023 the program operated in New Orleans for its second year and launched for its first year in Brooklyn. Next year, the program will be held in Brooklyn again and launch a partnership with SanDiego Unified School District. Having different cities involved is fun for us as we get to flex our design muscles. Check out the Brooklyn subway look onstage!

PALM SPRINGS

The Red Dress/Dress Red Event

The Red Dress/Dress Red Event

What was once a small event of 350 people in 2015, has now grown to a dance party attended by over 3,000 people and held at the Palm Springs Air Museum. The funds are raised for the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, one of our favorite clients and a super fun event to attend helping to build a strong community in Palm Springs.

The Faux Fur Ball

We were soon back to Palm Springs again to help the Palm Springs Animal Shelter raise money. The colorful evening featured a silent auction, dinner and unlimited animal puns! Delicious food catered by Lulu’sCatering, it was a night of fun, disco tunes and raising funds for an important cause!

SANTA MONICA

The Fran Drescher Master Class Health Summit

The Fran Drescher Master Class Health Summit

cancerschmancer.org

As only she can, Fran Drescher brings people together with heart and humor for a full day to fight cancer. Her feeling about it? “Cancer Schmancer!” And yes, her catch phrase has become a tagline for the event. We emblazoned it on swag bags, the step-and-repeat and other signage at the Annenberg Beach House on Pacific Coast Highway. The conference was a full day of speakers who offered wisdom and advice on cancer prevention, eating organically and more. The event was open to the public and attended by 120 people including celebrities such as Nicolette Sheridan. And, drum roll please … We are producing this fun, educational experience again in July in the Hamptons.

RYAN’S RESTAURANT RECOS

From the Road

NEW ORLEANS :
Marjie’s Grill
The team and I love this casual eatery located on South Broad Street. It’s a mashup of funky flavors and styles found on the streets of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Many dishes feature the open-fire cooking techniques of those countries paired with the local seasonal ingredients sourced from the farms neighboring New Orleans. It’s unique and not what you’d expect from NOLA.

Baby Blues Luncheonette - BROOKLYNBROOKLYN :
Baby Blues Luncheonette
The menu at this modern Greek diner features such faves as dilly egg sandwiches, an H.L.T. (halloumi, lettuce, and heirloom tomatoes), Greek salad, watermelon-feta salads, the “Zorba plate” (halloumi, tzatziki, Greek potatoes). The luncheonette’s name is a reference to retro jazz and blues clubs and the owners hope to evoke a similar nostalgia. Keeping on theme, Baby Blues has a dedicated audio player for playing some old blues and jazz tapes.

El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana - PALM SPRINGSPALM SPRINGS :
El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana
If you need a cold margarita and a hot enchilada this is the place. We are in Palm Springs a lot with about four annual events here and have come to love this Mexican restaurant. With two locations – one in the southern part of Palm Springs and the other Palm Springs North at the Los Arboles Hotel it’s never far. El Mirasol is known for hot plates (seriously… its motto is “Heaven can wait, enchiladas can’t … because they get cold”).

Mercado - SANTA MONICASANTA MONICA :
Mercado
Do you see a theme? We love Mexican food! There are several Mercados in Los Angeles, but we are most often at the Santa Monica location when working on events off PCH at the Annenberg Beach House and Fran Drescher’s Master Class Health Summit. It’s easy to get to from PCH or the 10 freeway (always a big plus in Los Angeles) and everything is so good!

PS We will be in the Hamptons with the Fran Drescher Master Class Health Summit in July and I’m looking for recommendations for: Hotels, restaurants, caterers and large venues.

Thank you

See you soon either in your city, or one near you.
