Events in LA

Post from Zynger Event Designs’ November 2012 Newsletter:

Los Angeles is one of the most influential cities in the world, defining popular culture and leading the way in entertainment, media, and, of course, extravagant events.

When we were brainstorming ideas on what to cover in our next newsletter, our discussion evolved into what it means to live and work in LA, and why it is such a great place for holding events. The resources here are amazing, from unique venues and talented planners to flawless caterers and elegant florists. Each contributes to a rich environment of opportunities, leading to combinations found nowhere else.

Given such an array of creative ideas and the minds they spring from, we thought it would be fun to reach out to a few of the best in the business and ask “What do you like about doing events in Los Angeles?”

Here’s what some of them had to say:

“In my opinion, LA is a uniquely party-friendly city for those of us in the catering and event-planning industry.  Apart from the obvious almost-perfect-all-year-round-weather, we are fortunate enough to benefit from all the movie-related props and accessories.

Want to change that parking lot into an English garden – no problem, just give me a couple of days and we can have lawns bordered with full hedges, gazebos, rose-covered walkways, anything. While it is not inexpensive to transform spaces like this, LA is unique in that we have a choice of many prop houses from which to rent, therefore making it a lot more cost-effective than in many other places.

Additionally, in LA, we like big houses with big outdoor spaces, allowing so much an-home entertaining, with these outdoor spaces being usable for 85% of the year.

Finally, from the pure food perspective, we live in what is effectively the Garden State, with a huge amount of our fresh products sourced relatively close, and in addition benefit from an unusually high number of significant ethnic populations centers within the city, which results in an exceptionally large palate of easily available raw ingredients unparalleled in any part of the country.”

“Southern California has a unique blend that no other city and regional area around the world has.  It is a perfect blend of sophisticated special event community, combined with best and most consistent weather in the US, and the presence of Hollywood which is pretty much the birthplace of all special effects which have ultimately made their way into the event community.”

Hollywood, the “Entertainment Capital of The World,”  sustains that reputation not only through excellence in Film and Television, but also via legendary events celebrating countless achievements and milestones, both professional and personal.  “It’s a town of very creative and successful movers and shakers. They frequently “hob-nob” with each other, not only for fun, but to do business,” says Cheryl Cecchetto, President of Sequoia Productions. “There is so much socializing, such as at the Oscar and Emmy Governors Balls and the television wrap parties that I produce. We must continually raise the bar to ensure our well-healed guests are constantly intrigued and captivated by each new experience. Many of the most ambitious events are here in Hollywood, so I must be at the absolute top of my game.  I enjoy rising to the challenge and surpassing expectations. When my most discriminating clients are eager to hear my next big idea, then I know I’m doing my job. I must also mention that our beautiful weather affords us many opportunities to celebrate with the stars – actually under the stars, or on an idyllic beach, or at any number of other local settings in the Great Outdoors of Hollywood.”
